This seemed like the perfect place to close the whole album; it completes my journey. My album begins at my darkest hour, feeling completely empty handed, and ends up here, where I finally feel good again.

There are a few poignant lyrics in this song, in terms of my own journey. I talk about smiling at a mother and child and lovers walking hand in hand across the beach, which are some strong memories for me. For so long I would only feel the sting of Jamie’s absence every time I saw a mother out with her child, or a happy pregnant woman parading her beautiful baby bump. I would look on in envy at couples walking together looking so happy, wishing I could go back to that place, where it seemed like I had the whole world at my fingertips.

It was therefore a very significant moment when I felt myself genuinely smiling at such images as they passed me by. I noticed that the sting had lessened and I was no longer thinking about my own story- I was happy to see their story unfolding. It was at the same time that I started to ‘stop and smell the roses’ (or frangipani’s as it were) more and more. I was feeling a deep sense of gratitude again for my life and I was living more in the moment that I had before. It was a great place to be in and I remember really noticing it for the first time and smiling to myself in disbelief that I could actually be feeling this way again.

I decided to fade out the song at the end, with the piano riff that is heard throughout. My reasoning for this was to create the imagery of the journey continuing on and on. On that note, I want to say that this is not the end of the journey. It’s a continual working progress, trudging your way through the grief of losing a child. There are so many ups and downs along the way, but so many unexpected and positive surprises to be found too.

Thank you for letting me come along on your journey in this small way, I am honoured to have been a part of it. I send you much love as you take your own journey and wish you nothing short of feeling good again.

Sand under my toes, the sun lights the ocean as far as it goes
I feel good, surprisingly good today.
I smile at a mother and child, playing chase on the beach,
and I feel good, surprisingly good today.

It’s hard to understand, surprising that I could feel this kind of happiness again.
But as lovers hold hands across the sand,
I feel good again, surprisingly good again oh

I ask the waitress ‘How are you?’, and I really meant it to,
I feel good, surprisingly good today.
My hair is down and I’m running free, I stop to smell the Frangipani tree,
I feel good, surprisingly good today.

Aye, yaey, yaey, yaey, yeay, yeah, ooooh, Uuuhhhhhh, ohhhh.

I’m feeling thankful for having had you, even all the ups and downs that we’ve been through
I feel good, surprisingly good today.
Cause gratitude lights the way, it gives us hope for a better day,
I feel good, surprisingly good today.

Life can feel good again, life can feel good again yeay,
Oh I feel good again, life can feel good again

Pre Outro
Ooh, ooh, ooh
Life can feel good, surprisingly good again.
Who would have thought, life can feel good again.
It just takes some time, but life can feel good again.
Take it from me, life can feel good again

Cause I feel good, surprisingly good again,
Oh I feel good, surprisingly good again yeay,
And life can feel good, life can feel good again

I finally feel good.
